Top five festival fashion tips straight from Coachella

Unless you’re from a different planet there is no way you could have missed this year’s coverage of Coachella Valley Arts and Music Festival – mainly in the Daily Mail’s column of shame! Everywhere you look there are beautiful people walking around in the sunshine, wearing not very many clothes having the time of their lives. There was a good mix of celebrities this year enjoying the ‘festival’ experience and broadcasting it all over Instagram for our viewing pleasure.

Coachella is a festival poser’s paradise and I, for one, am desperate to go next year (does that make me a poser?)! It marks the start of the festival season and is the place to predict what is hot in the world of festival fashion this year. I’ve trawled the internet to bring you my top five takeaways from this year’s wonderful festival just in time for your summer ahead. (Even if you’re not going to an actual festival this year you’ll still want to rock these looks for sure!)

Number One: It’s all about the 70’s baby!

This year summer fashion is all about the 70’s look! It is all about fringing on EVERYTHING, flowing cotton, flower power, crochet, a bit of tie dye and generally looking like you a are well groomed, slightly glamorous hippie.

You can’t go wrong with suede ankle boots, these are a great and practical place to start. Match them with a cute pair of shorts and matching crop top and you have yourself a summer festival staple look that will make every day feel like a festival. For good measure feel free to tie a few feathers into your hair and wear lots of bangles.

For a good set of ‘co-ords’ check out ASOS’s collection here. They have loads of great choices!

Another way to rock the 70’s look is to think about channeling your inner ‘Gypsy Warrior’ and let her be set free into the world just like Kendall Jenner below. Think simple black and white with plenty of gold jewellery and accessories. This is a less hippie look for those of you not fully onboard with the whole ‘peace man’ vibe.

Number Two: Denim shorts, the festival staple.

Long live the humble denim shorts! This is just a festival fashion that is never going to go away and I can tell you we are jolly glad about that because nothing say’s ‘I’m cool and go to festivals’ like a pair of Daisy Dukes!

Gigi Hadid looks great in her’s and keeps this classic look simple. It combines the 70’s look without having to go all out.

This staple will basically cover all bases for you and if you are festivaling this year then you must buy a great pair. Even if you’re not actually going to a festival you should own a pair as no wardrobe is complete without them!

My top tips for denim shorts…

– High waisted is a good way to go and means you can wear crop tops even if you don’t have a washboard stomach.

– Your bum cheeks should never hang out the bottom unless you have a supermodel bum. It’s just not needed – fact.

– Experiment with colours, blue and black are great but look out for other colours to mix it up a bit!

Number Three: Pastel coloured hair

Now, this trend has been around for quite some time, however summer time is the perfect time flaunt it! Below Jourdan Dunn shows us how violet hair can look amazing with any festival outfit. This outfit is all about the hair and I have to say if I was braver this is the colour I would love to go for it. (I am however a complete, and self confessed, wimp about changing my hair so it’s unlikely to happen on me.)

Another ace pastel hair colour to go for pink just like Julianne Hough. She, like Jourdan above, is letting her hair do the talking and keeping her outfit nice and simple. The last thing you will want to do is end up with a clash.

If you are tempted to go pastel now really is the perfect time to do it and will look just beatuiful all summer long.

Number Four: Flower power isn’t just for the girls

Big flower headbands are nothing new, especially on the festival scene. However, this year they are not just for the girls! It’s time to get the boy’s involved in sharing the flower power love.

The girls have been loving the over sized hair garlands for the past few years and this, in a similar way to the denim shorts, is now a festive staple.

Number Five: Dare to bare… and just let it all hang out!

Festivals are a place for the young and the free. They are a special place were people connect with each other, make memories and express there true selves. (Or something like that!) Either way they are a place were you can dare to bare and nobody will bat an eyelid!

At a festival you really can get away with wearing whatever the hell you want and if Coachella has taught us anything this year then it’s the more flesh the better. It is a great excuse to wake up and just wear your swimming costume all day, no questions asked!

Being at a festival means you can get away with your tiniest and most flesh baring outfit which you can wear with pride! They are a place to feel proud of what you have got and to get it out!

So, if everyday clothes feel far too restrictive this festival fashion trend is most defiantly for you and is your chance to literally show it all off and have fun doing it!

Festival fashion is all about fun with your clothes and your style and wearing whatever you want! It can be so liberating to just be yourself and if you can stick to that rule you will have a good time no matter what.

So, that’s it from me! Follow these simple fashion trends and you are guaranteed to look awesome all summer long!
