A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
It is the first highlights post of 2015 and we hope that by taking stock of what really is ‘just nice’ this week, we can make your January feel slightly brighter. It’s all about enjoying the little things, even if it feels like the January blues are in full swing.
If you’ve got a highlight this week feel free to send us a tweet @Its_Just_Nice or comment on our Facebook page! #itsjustnice
Before we crack on with our individual highlights I do have to mention a little blog highlight first. This week we had our very first print article published in this month’s Crumbs Magazine! The article give the readers a run down on our favourite Bristol haunts. You can check out the whole article here – we’re pretty bloody proud of it.
This week Cloe’s highlight is…
My new organised jewellery / make up station! (Yes, I call it a station!)
A new year feels like a jolly good time to reflex my organisation muscles and wow, my muscles are feeling ready to go! Over the weekend I purchased this little bad boy, Deflecto The Cube Kit, from Amazon and gave my rather messy collection of jewellery and make up a good old tidy up! I originally found out about this little gem from our office manger, the lovely Kenresa, who actually ordered these for our stationary cupboard at work. And let’s face it – who doesn’t love a good storage stationary unit.
This week Vicky’s highlight is….
Some good old fashioned down time! After the flurry of Christmas has subsided I’m finally feeling like I can get into 2015 with a new, calmer outlook…or at least a more sober one. No I’m not trying out dry January, but I’m certainly trying to make more time for reading books, cooking up some treats in the kitchen and for one of my favourite pastimes, watching new movies.
This week I delved into the dark, complicated world of the Birdman as actor Michael Keaton takes on the reflective role of the washed up Superhero. This often comical and sometimes heavy movie takes a new look at what it’s like for actors post-fame, tackling mental illness, drug abuse, affairs and the constant fight to be recognised as something other than your stereotyped previous character. Beautifully acted, with an astounding supporting cast including the likes of Edward Norton and Emma Stone, the cinematography is serene whilst still powerful and the low-key Jazz music that accompanies throughout really helps add to the somber tone. With a bit of an indie vibe, this is a great movie to see in a relaxing 2015. More please!
This week Meg’s highlight is…
I discovered this nifty little website just before Christmas, and I’m completely obsessed. They’re an online store selling pieces from all over the world and everything is incredibly reasonable. You do have to have a bit of a rummage but I’ve so far come across three really unusual items that have quickly become staples in my wardrobe, none more so than this badass sweatshirt! I’m currently wearing it right now and wondering if it’s not the best statement to be making when I’m sat in the office…
The downside is shipping takes ages, but they’re so cheap and everything is well worth the wait.
This week Frankie’s Highlight is…
Coconut oil. I know, I know, I’m like a million years behind the whole world but I’ve finally started using it and I love it! The downside? I live in the land of coconuts but for some reason it costs the earth here! Why? I guess Malaysian’s don’t use coconut oil all that much, but they should because it tastes great (I cook a lot of Asian food) and it’s so much better for you. WIN WIN! I don’t have a photo of my oil because it comes in a nothing jar, I’ll try and post some nice food I’ve cooked with it next week.
