A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
Now it has been a little while since we last shook our booties whilst sitting down, but this week the Chair Dancer is back and it is all in honour of our Lady Franks, who is sadly leaving Bristol to jet off to Malaysia for a whole year! A whole ruddy year! What is Bristol going to do without it’s one and only cider drinking, dutty winding Lady Frank’s… It going to miss her buckets – that what it’s going to do!
Our Frankie is one half of the very beautiful DJ duo that is Duchess – our Meg is the the other half but she is not going anywhere so we don’t need to worry to much about her 😉 Anyway, these smoking hot ladies have already played Glastonbury this year and continue to be Bristol’s hottest female duo! If you’re stuck for something to listen to check out their sound cloud page – it’s pretty epic! https://soundcloud.com/duchess-djs
As Frankie sadly leaves us it is not the end for Duchess – they are becoming a collective so keep your eyes peeled!
For Frankie’s last Friday is Bristol we want to give her a right old jolly send off so make sure you get you bottoms shaking and let our Frankie inspired chairing dancing tunes enter your ears! Welcome to the weekend!
This week Meg’s been chair dancing to…
Oh maaaaan…it’s just too hard to choose! Franks and I first bonded over our shared love of loud bashy music, and since founding Duchess we’ve shared too many “AHHH THIS TUNE” moments than I’d care to count. But hey, I’m going to have to choose one, and it really couldn’t be anything other than Major Lazer!
Now you all know how much the two of us fan girl over Diplo and his Major Lazer crew. We went to see them at The Academy, we went to see them at Glastonbury, we went to see them at The Warehouse Project (all in the space of 6 months!), not to mention featuring their tracks regularly in our sets. All of their tracks are pretty special to us, but this one in particular will probably always stand out for me, as it was the closing track in our first every Glastonbury set, and quite honestly – when we played this it was one of the best moments of my life.
So picture the scene…it’s approaching 5am on Sunday morning at Glastonbury. We’d nearly finished playing the set of our careers on The Rum Shack stage at the biggest festival in the world. We’d danced our hearts out (in wellies, of course), so what do you play as your closing track? This of course!
When we dropped this not only did the crowd go mad, but so did we. I very clearly remember Franks jumping out from behind the decks and start dancing on the stage, and as she did so, the whole crowd started to copy her moves, waving there arms from side to side. And as the tempo built and the bass dropped all of a sudden the whole crowd was following us – dancing as one and jumping from the left to the right – it was quite frankly mind blowing.
So without further ado (and before I start crying) here it is – Major Lazer – Soundbang!
This week Cloe’s been chair dancing to…
Major Lazer featuring Sean Paul!
Frankie really does love her moombahton so this was an easy choice really! An added bonus, it features Sean Paul so how could I possibly go wrong with it! This tune has featured in our chair dancer before and it was chosen by Frank’s and I have to admit it really is a massive tune! You just can’t help wanting to drop it like its hot! However in the words of Franks, ‘I’ve always wondered…If it’s hot, why am I dropping it?’ What a ruddy god point!
Anyway, we are going to miss you loads and we can’t wait for you to move back already!
This week Vicky’s been chair dancing to…
Well there’s definitely a theme here when it comes to Frankie and music! The Duchess duo have been my goddesses when it comes to opening my eyes to new DJ’s and music styles and I can’t thank them enough. My chair dancer choice this week is indebted to Frankie and the serious dance moves she’s taught me since we first met. I’ve never seen someone dutty wine like her and I’m proud to have been taught how to shake my derrière by a true master. In memory of our absolute corker of a first night out and gig together, I’ve chosen Major Lazer – Bubble butts. Here’s to all the big booty bitches and the inspiring Miss Frankie.
Style icon, incredible DJ and all around beautiful person; Frankie, you will be sorely missed.
