A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
So this week the It’s Just Nice dream team got together and had a think about how we could make the blog that little bit better! Trust us – there are lots of exciting things on the horizon, so expect a lot more new and exciting content from us in the future, but the one thing we were all in agreement on was events…basically, we need to be shouting about them!
Now we know we already do quite a bit around events, and we’ll regularly highlight gigs, nights or festivals which we’re planning on going to, but we all felt that we want to start giving you lot more of an overview of the wicked stuff that’s going on in the city. There’s no doubt about it – this is going to be a work in progress, but to get us rolling I thought I’d have a little nosey around and pull together my pick of some of the best events which are taking place in Bristol this weekend.
If you’ve got an event you want us to shout out then drop us an email , tweet or a comment on Facebook and we’ll definitely do our best to pimp it out for you, but for now here’s a little slice of some fun that can be had in our wonderfully eclectic city this weekend!
Friday 6th September
Trinity Centre, BS2 0NW
£9 advance entry and skate hire, or £11 on the door
Aw maaaaan, I’m so desperate to go to a Bump night! One day I’ll get my skates on (literally!) and get on down there, but for now I’ll just have to make do with telling you guys all about how ace it sounds.
Bump’s been running for a while in Bristol now, and the concept is very simple – it’s a roller disco. So expect roller skates, great music and loads of LOLs.
They offer skate hire, and it’s open to all abilities. There’s also a bar open all night, which I kind of love…imagine a bunch of slightly tipsy people trying to roller skate to Chic! The mind boggles…
The Black Swan, BS5 6NR
£8 advance tickets or £12 on the door
If you like your music (and your nights out) deep and dirty then head on over to The Black Swan on Stapleton Road for one of Bristol’s biggest underground sound systems.
With two rooms of roots, reggae, dancehall, bass music, jungle and house, this is bound to be one big old melting pot of all the wicked sounds coming out of Bristol and beyond – definitely one for the straight through crew!
The Big Chill, BS1 1DE
We love the Futureboogie guys, and so should you!
If you’re after a night of hands in the air, feel good disco, with a few classics thrown in for good measure then this is night for you, and it’s free entry – winning!
What’s more, The Big Chill never fails to disappoint, and they do some flipping marvellous cocktails. Yum!
Saturday 7th September
St Marks Church Hall, BS5 6HX
Free entry – 12-4
Who doesn’t love a good mooch on a Saturday morning? Our lovely friend Emma is a bit of a dab hand when it comes to organising a market, so if you fancy a potter round some lovely local market stalls on Saturday morning then pop on over to St Marks Church Hall in Easton from 12.
As well as stalls selling all sorts of local loveliness the market will also include local artists, music, face painting for the kiddies (big and small) and henna. Lush!
£4 advance tickets, £5 on the door
It didn’t take long for Bristol’s most iconic DJ to come out of ‘retirement’, did it?!
After what was meant to be his last gig at The Harbour Festival, DJ Derek is back at The Thunderbolt, supported by DJ Beavis. We don’t need to tell you much more than that really – it’s DJ Derek goddammit! You know exactly what you’ll be getting!
The Big Chill, BS1 1DE
Another free night at The Big Chill here, hosted by the Sip the Juice crew who are famed for putting on some of Bristol’s biggest hip hop nights, you can guarantee it’ll be a good’un!
Having had a bit of a nose around online it doesn’t actually look like there’s too much going on on Sunday, so make the most of it and have a nice lazy end to the weekend, complete with a big old roast dinner – we’d recommend the roast at The Rose of Denmark – they’re immense!
