A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
I’m going to keep this post super short. Firstly because I don’t want to gush about just how much we bloody LOVE Bristol based Pie geniuses Pieminister, but secondly, because I imagine the chances are we’d be preaching to the converted. I honestly don’t think I know anyone who doesn’t love Pieminister, and over the past ten years they’ve become as much of a Bristol institution as the suspension bridge, cider and Big Jeff.
Franks and I were lucky enough to be invited along to the VIPie relaunch of Pieminister’s flagship shop on Stoke’s Croft on Saturday night, to celebrate their ten year anniversary, and in classic Pieminister style they kept it nice and simple – free pie and a pint in return for a few lines about why you love them so much. Franks boshed out a few lines about her ‘intimate’ relationship with them, and how she regularly stalks hot pie man at the St Nick’s branch, and hey presto – we had an invite!
The new restaurant is very cool, and very Bristol – all bare brick walls, chunky wooden surfaces and lots of metal work – think a bit Brew Dog. The menu is more extensive than the St Nick’s branch, as the restaurant is far more geared up for ‘proper diners’ as opposed to the lunch time rush, but the ethos remains the same – great, simple food done really, really well. When we popped down on Saturday night the place was packed, and the atmosphere was lovely – just very laid back, very chilled, very Pieminister!
We both went all out with Pie, mash, mushy peas and gravy, and finished it off with a pint of Bath Ales’ Bounders Cider. Franks went for The Matador (steak, chorizo, olives, sherry and butter beans) and I broke the habit of a lifetime by not choosing a Heidi Pie (don’t worry Heidi, I still love your cheesy goodness) but opted for The Shamrock – classic steak with Irish Stout.
We both left very full and very happy, and as if it couldn’t get any better, we were both presented with a Goodie Bag as we left, which included a Pieminister mug, bottle opener, fancy tea, sweets and a discount voucher for next time!
Oh Pieminister, you do know how to treat a girl don’t you?
