A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
I have absolutely no idea how or why it’s taken me so long to write this post – realistically it should have been one of the first write ups I ever did, for a variety of reasons. Firstly, I spend so much time here that for a good six months I was the Major on Foursquare (yes, I really am that cool) until Rosie stealthily nabbed the title from me. Secondly, it’s one of my favourite all round places to spend time in Bristol, be it for a cheeky Friday lunch, a post work drink, or a boogie until the early hours – Start The Bus ticks all my boxes.
Start The Bus has occupied it’s little corner of Corn Street for a good few years now but those of you who’ve been in Bristol for a while will remember that in a previous life STB was actually Edwards, a chav-tastic, pre Oceana destination. Don’t let that put you off though-it’s considerably cooler nowadays!
As far as I’m concerned part of STB’s success has been the fact that it’s a bit of a ‘chameleon’ venue. As I mentioned at the start of this post, it’s the ideal spot for a laid back burger and a pint on a Friday lunchtime, but after dark it turns into one of the centre’s busiest night spots, with bands and DJs playing until the early hours. And that’s not just on the weekend-there have been many a school night where I’ve had to drag myself off the dance floor for fear of having the dreaded workday hangover.
Food wise, STB know what they do well and they stick to it, and that’s generous portions of classic diner food such as deli style sandwiches, mac & cheese and the crowning glory-their burgers! All burgers are around a tenner, and you can choose from a vast array of topping combos, including mac and cheese (on a burger?!! Yes please!!) If that wasn’t enough they all come served with well seasoned, skin on, triple fried chips and tonnes of condiments to choose from-a good sign in my book! At a time when there are so many restaurants shouting about serving Bristol’s best burgers STB are just getting on with it, and serving burgers which although they don’t scream it from the rooftops, are definitely contenders for the best in the city! If you don’t believe me, take a look at the pictures, or even better, get down there and try on of these monsters for yourself!
