A lifestyle blog bringing you fashion, music, food, and everything else that's just nice about Bristol and beyond!
It feels like we’ve been waiting for it for a lifetime, but Brisfest is finally back!
Brisfest, for those of you who don’t know, is the reincarnation of the much loved Ashton Court festival. As a born and bred Bristolian, Ashton Court Festival was always a firm fixture in my summer. As a kid I used to go with my parents, and as I got older, used to catch the bus up with my friends and get drunk on Thatchers – now what’s more Bristol than that?!
So when the team behind Brisfest announced that they were moving back to Ashton Court for 2012 (their “spiritual home!”), after a few years on the harbour side, you could almost hear Bristol shout a collective “Hooray!”
One of the things that makes Brisfest so great, is the fact that they firmly believe that this is the community’s festival. The vast majority of the acts are local, the vendors are local, and they want locals to volunteer (you can do so here!) Ashton Court Festival always had an amazing sense of bringing the people of Bristol together to celebrate how great the city is, and I’m really excited that Brisfest are keeping up the tradition.
This year’s festival will take place on 22-23 September, and you can buy your tickets here for just £30. The line up was announced this morning, and includes hip hop legends and headliners De La Soul, Beardyman, and Bristol local Roni Size, alongside a plethora of local talent. You can have a look at the full line up here.
However, line up aside, I’d urge anyone who lives, works, or plays in Bristol to go ahead and buy a ticket. If Brisfest can live up to the standards set by the old festival at Ashton Court, then we’re all in for a treat!
Here’s a classic Roni Size track to get you in the mood:
